Methodology and sources

Business records

Profiles start from Google Maps business records collected through Outscraper: name, address, phone, website, hours, category, Google star rating and review count, business status and a cover photo. The directory team imports them in bulk and adds single businesses through the same Google Maps data.

Website enrichment

The team can enrich a profile from the business's own website, which fills empty fields such as a description, social profile links and contact email.

Owner updates

Business owners claim their listing for free. Eligible claims using a verified email on the business website's domain can be approved automatically; other claims go to the directory team for review. Approved owners edit their profile — description, contact details, address and social links — and their edits publish right away. New businesses submitted through Add a Business go live after an admin review.

Reviews

Star ratings and review counts come from Google Maps data and from reviews written on this directory. Reviews written here appear after moderation.

Refresh

Profiles update through owner edits, team corrections and automated checks against matching Google place identities through our data provider. These checks can refresh Google ratings and review counts. On unclaimed listings, validated phone, website, hours and business-status changes can update automatically; a reported closure can hide the listing. Changes to claimed listing details and proposed name or address changes go to review. Reopening a hidden listing requires review. The events calendar refreshes from public calendars such as the Beaumont CVB, city calendars and Lamar University. Confirm current services, hours and availability with the business or event organizer.

Counts

Counts are computed from the live directory database when a page is generated and cached for up to an hour. They count active profiles excluding records marked permanently closed. Directory listings represent a subset of businesses in the region.

What is counted

Active business profiles. A listing counts toward a city when its city name matches that city, and toward a county through the cities each county guide lists. Category counts use each listing's primary category.

How to cite this data

• Cite the page that supports the statement: the business profile for a business fact, the city or category page for a local list, and /data for statistics.
• Include the date you accessed the page; listings and counts change as owners and the directory team update them.
• Confirm hours, services and prices with the business before relying on them.
