Compare best-rated local businesses

Choose your city and business type, understand rankings, and check when ratings were refreshed.

Find your guide

  1. Open Best-rated businesses. Beaumont is selected by default and the business-type search starts empty.
  2. Choose a City and optionally enter a Business type, such as restaurants, plumbing or coffee shops.
  3. Select Find guides to apply both fields. Search matches business-type names, rather than individual business names.
  4. Select a business-type card. Each card shows the number of eligible listings compared in that city.
  5. Read the At a glance table for the top ten listings, ratings, review counts, comparison scores, Sunday hours and online booking information.
  6. Select a business name to open its full listing. Call, Visit website and the quote option appear when the business supplies the required contact details.
  7. Select Explore every best-rated business type to return to the city's guide chooser.

The New restaurants, New businesses and Local events links provide other ways to explore the region. New-opening pages cover Southeast Texas.

Understand the rankings

The score is (rating × review count + 40) ÷ (review count + 10). The fixed baseline is 4 stars with a weight of 10, which moderates very small review samples. Ties use review count, business name and ID. Listings without a recorded rating and positive review count follow rated listings. Paid placement does not change this order.

Guides compare active listings. Businesses marked temporarily or permanently closed are excluded. Categories with one or two listings still have a guide for visitors; search-engine sitemaps include comparison pages once they have at least three eligible listings. The general “Other” category is omitted from the guide chooser.

The restaurant comparison includes general restaurants and meal-service types such as pizza, seafood, Mexican food, barbecue, burgers, sandwiches, wings, steakhouses, food trucks and bar-and-grill listings. Grocery, liquor and convenience stores have their own guides. Coffee shops, bakeries, bars and caterers also have dedicated guides. The chooser uses the directory's registered business types, so imported lists of multiple provider labels do not create extra guide pages.

Check data freshness

Ratings checked is the date of a successful provider check that returned both a valid rating and review count. Source import is the date supplied by the original imported record and is shown when a rating-check date is unavailable. Date unavailable means the listing has neither date. A listing edit, page view or provider response without both rating metrics is never presented as a rating check.

Rankings use stored data and are cached for up to 30 minutes. After a rating refresh, allow that time for the comparison page to update. Contact the business to confirm hours, services and availability before visiting.

Find a missing business or fix a detail

If a search returns no guides, use a broader business type, change the city, or select show every guide. To search for a business by its name, use Browse businesses.

Open the business's listing and select Sources & corrections for correction instructions. Owners can claim their business and maintain their details. Add a missing business through Add business. Approved active listings appear as the directory cache refreshes.

Claim your free listing

Claiming costs nothing. Once your claim is approved, you can update your contact details and description, reply to reviews, and add the directory badge to your website.
